GRIZZLY BEAR CORE HABITAT AND CONFLICT GIS ANALYSIS

Performed a GIS analysis on behalf of Defenders of Wildlife. Analyzed potential grizzly bear conflict areas and core habitat availability within the North Cascades Ecosystem (NCE) Recovery Zone in Washington. Gathered GIS data on grizzly bear attractants such as hobby farms, high-use trails, and unsecured trash among many other variables. Created a scoring system for variables and overlaid them to create a raster file highlighting highest density conflict zones. Also gathered information about trails, roads, and public land within the NCE and overlaid them to designate core habitat for the species. These two datasets will be highly beneficial if the species naturally reestablishes or is reintroduced into the NCE in the future.
